Israeli Knesset Is Under Attack

Shay M

September 1, 2024

Last week, an Iranian hacker group operating under the name "Promised Revenge" claimed responsibility for compromising the Israeli Knesset's infrastructure.
They announced their intention on their Telegram channel and claimed to have accessed sensitive information and later sent millions of SMS messages to Israeli citizens as part of a “scareware” operation.

After a few days, the official Knesset website was unavailable with a sign of maintenance, as yet, besides the claims of the hacking group, no relevant data was published to back their claims.

Today, the group posted screenshots that they claimed were from the Knesset's internal network, internal email communications, and other 5GB of confidential data.

The internal confidential files were published as a PoC in their Telegram channel and their official website operates under their name.

Due to the claims of the hacking team, last week an attempt to hack into the Knesset website was identified by the Knesset's Cyber Department and blocked in real-time.
Due to that, the website of the Knesset is disconnected from the rest of the Knesset's internal networks, so there is no concern about the leakage of confidential or operative material.

As a precautionary measure, an in-depth investigation by teams is carried out via the Knesset's cyber teams, together with the National Cyber Directorate and they are trying to mitigate the incident.
